Installation / Anyone tried moving their install to new hardware?
« on: August 08, 2018, 08:53:28 AM »
Hello,

I want to refresh my lab install but I want to be lazy and not reinstall and reconfigure everything. Anyone tried moving their install to new hardware? Essentially I'm thinking about making an image of the OS disk, and then connecting it to the new hardware and seeing if it'll pick everything up and get the new drivers and just kinda work. The biggest change is my hardware refresh moves from AMD to Intel. Desktop Windows this was reasonably OK to do, maybe with a little prep, like I could do a boot with most non-essential hardware disconnected, uninstall all the drivers I can find specific to that config and then move it?

Please help.

I didn't find the right solution from the internet.

Installation / Will I be able to move the hard drive successfully?
« on: August 08, 2018, 08:52:52 AM »
Hello,

I'm going to be building a new computer - and would like to move my current hard drive (w/Win98 installed on it) from the current computer (Dell OptiPlex, P-II, 450MHz) to the new one (Athlon XP1500+, MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU MB).

Will I be able to move the hard drive successfully - or will I have to either rebuild the hard drive in the new sytem or purchase a new hard drive? Any thoughts or observations would be greatly appreciated.

Please help.

Hardware / What are the recommended system requirements ?
« on: August 08, 2018, 08:50:23 AM »
Hello,

What are the recommended system requirements for a workstation running Elmer (i.e. 4-Core with Hyperthreading, 4 memory channels, 2GB video card)?

I plan on procuring a system but am in a bind between two processors (i7-4790K and i7-4820K). The i7-4790K only allows 2 memory channels (DDR3-1600) while the i7-4820K allows for for 4 memory channels (DDR3-1866). Additionally, the motherboard for the i7-4820K (4 core/8 thread) will allow for a CPU upgrade to at 6 core/12 thread processor.

Please help.

Hardware / looking at different CAD programs
« on: August 08, 2018, 08:48:36 AM »
Hello,

I've been googling around looking at different CAD programs and I was wondering, what hardware is recommended for FreeCAD? Is this project optimized for gaming or professional GPUs? I've made some lighter, not very complex models with it and it runs very well on my entry level system with a Pentium Dual-Core and Radeon HD 5670 1GB. But when I was talking to a friend who is used to using Solidworks on a Xeon workstation and mid-level professional FirePro GPU, he was quite skeptical about the hardware requirements and results of FreeCAD.

Please help.

Hardware / what the process name of Hardware Wizard is?
« on: July 24, 2018, 10:12:42 AM »
Hello,

Can someone tell me what the process name of Hardware Wizard is?
I have uninstalled an NIC (using the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard) and when trying to reinstall it, I get the error message that another device installation is already underway. I don't know what the problem is, but I figure the place to start is to kill that process.

Please help.

Hardware / How do I continue on from here?
« on: July 24, 2018, 10:12:04 AM »
Hello,

I'm reinstalling Windows XP on a Dell desktop. I get to the point where it says it's installing devices; then, it hangs at 37 minutes. The blurbs to the right rotates through its usual pages. Furthermore, the ... thing (for the lack of a better term) on the bottom righthand corner seems to conclude that it's thinking. However, it still notes that "setup will complete in approximately 37 minutes"

I've waited more than the suggested 37 minutes; still, nada. I'm wondering how do I complete the XP reinstall?

A bit of a side note: An external harddrive, a non-Dell printer, and non-Dell mouse have been added to the computer. I've tried powercycling the desktop with all three unattached, and it still hangs. How do I continue on from here?

Please help.

Software / Any suggestions?
« on: July 24, 2018, 10:10:43 AM »
Hello,

I normally use my laptop computer to run the UP! but it died earlier today and so I have swapped over to this desktop machine.
I plugged the UP! into the USB port, applied power, and Windows (7 Ultimate 64bit) came up saying that the driver installation had failed.
I installed the version 1.16 software as well, it "can't find 3D printer" now.

I know it's something simple but I can't remember how to fix it.
Any suggestions?

Please help.

Software / Anyone else exeperienced this?
« on: July 24, 2018, 10:09:09 AM »
Hello,

I am trying to install Flare 12 64 bit on a Windows 7 64 bit but installation process fails.

During the process, after I can change installation location and I click Install a screen with Overall Progress and Current Package is shown and there are four green dot indicating progress, the installation process ends with "Setup Cancelled The operation was cancelled. No changes have been made".

I've tried the media downloaded from the e-mail I got from MadCap and I've also downloaded the Flare 12 trial package from MadCaps Website.

Anyone else exeperienced this?
Please help.
